The Pentecostal Church of Memphis
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
TMS Scope: Sound System Renovation
Project: This project came to us courtesy of two friends. When TPC Memphis realized that it was time to start designing a new worship center, Rev. Terry Black reached out to his longtime friend, Brother Flowers, pastor of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Memphis. EPC had just finished building their new worship center, and Brother Black really liked the quality of their sound system another fun TMS project. That referral from Brother Flowers is what got us our introduction to the folks at TPC Memphis.
We dove headlong into our initial design for the room acoustics and AVL systems for that new construction project. Unfortunately that project ultimately had to be put on hold thanks to the sluggish economy. During this holding pattern, I had been to the church on a few other occasions to help them with various adjustments and additions to their existing sound system. To say that listening to their exciting (and loud) Pentecostal worship style over their old horn-and-box system was tantamount to aural abuse would be kind. It pained me to know what they were going through every week, not to mention how difficult it would be to sell their existing building with such a poor and inadequate sound system to another church.
So I approached the church with the thought of replacing their tired, old loudspeaker system with something new and appropriate for their style of worship. Brother Black agreed with me that something should be done, so I set my design thoughts on their existing room. And the results are phenomenal. Clean and clear sound, every seat covered beautifully, as loud as they want to get yet never sounding harsh, with subwoofers worthy of their highly rhythmic style. What's not to love.
Their first service with the new sound system took place on November 23, 2008.
